Neunkirchen Coat of Arms

Shield Or, a church Argent in bend with port and windows Sable, having six gables, one turret upon the apse and one upon the centre of the roof ridge, all roofs Gules, on top of the western façade an angel statant Argent, holding a lease rod of the same, besides the main port an inescutcheon Or, charged with a lion rampant Sable, armed and tongued Gules under a bendlet Argent.
Meaning:
The nine roofs of the building are punning, referring to the name, meaning literally "nine churches", but probably referring to "new church". The angel is St. Michael, patron saint of the local parish church. The inescutcheon is alluding to the sovereignty of the Archbishopric of Bamberg. The inescutcheon was omitted in 1819. Since 1847 the town had not even local seals. The old pattern was restored in the 19th century. The Brandbach is a local creek.

The arms were granted on 6 April 1444 by the Archbishop of Bamberg Anton of Rotenhan and confirmed on 25 July 1973 by district governor (Regierungspräsident) of Oberfranken. The banner in Franconian colours probably has never been approved officially.
