Winterbach Coat of Arms

Shield Vair; mantled, at dexter parted per fess of Azure and Gules a sword Argent and a crozier Argent in saltire, at sinister parted per fess of Argent and Gules a crowned lion rampant in counterchanged tinctures.
Meaning:
The current municipality was established in 1972 by a merger of Winterbach, Waldkirch and Rechbergreuthen. The vair was part of the arms of Rechbergreuthen and was taken from the family arms of the Counts of Pappenheim. They had been local rulers and created the village by forest clearance in the 14th century. In the 17th century the village was acquired by Bayern, represented by the tinctures white and blue. The lion is taken from the family arms of the Lords of Waldkirch, local rulers in the namesake village from the 13th until the 16th century. The partition of blue and red is alluding to the Princely Abbey of Kempten, the crozier is symbolising its clerical power, the sword its mundane power.
