Coat of Arms

The golden (=yellow) shield is tierceded by a wavy red fork. In the dexter chief is a black horsehead, in the sinister chief a black comb and in the base a black, rampant lion armed and tongued red.
Meaning:
According to Veddeler 2003, p.139 the colours red and yellow are those of the former sovereigns, the bishops of Münster. The fork is symbolizing the riches of water on the territory of the municipality. The horse is symbolizing the former municipality of Harsewinkel, the comb the former municipality of Greffen and the lion is taken from the arms of Widukind of Rheda, who was protector of the monastery of Marienfeld. Thus the lion is symbolizing the former municipality of Marienfeld. The coat of arms is a modification of the former arms of Harsewinkel, having a shield in inverted colours and a white horsehead in each third. An image of those arms can be seen in Stadler 1972, p.48
