Lassan Coat of Arms

Shield Azure a fish Argent, surrounding by seven 6-point stars Or, three above an four beneath.
Meaning:
The fish is said to be sa almon and thus considered as a punning element. It is also assumed that the name of the city is based on the word "salmon" (German: Lachs). Catching the fish in the Achterwasser, a local lagoon, had been one of the main business lines in the past. The stars are said to represent the members of the local council. Their number changed however frequently. An other assumption is that they are symbolising the Pleiades, also known as The 7 Sisters. The arms are based on the print of a city seal from 1291, displaying a fish, surrounded by 23 stars and a circumscription.

The arms were designed in 1972. No approval of flag and arms is mentioned, but the arms are published in the Municipal Roll of Arms Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as no.112

Wolgast Coat of Arms

Shield Or, issuant from base a mount Vert, on its top an embattled tower Gules masoned Sable with port Or, topped by a dome of Azure and Or, supported by two griffins Sable armed Or and tongued Gules, standing on a pair of keys Sable in pale addorsed
Meaning:
In the 12th and 13th century Danes and Pomeranians struggled about the area around the market town, which was founded before 1257 by the Dukes Barnim I and Wartislaw III of Pommern. City rights were granted by Duke Bogislaw I of Pommern-Wolgast in 1282. The city became a member of the Hanseatic League from 1295 until 1465 and was seat of the Dukes of Pommern-Wolgast between 1532 and 1625. Wolgast became a dominion of Sweden in 1648. It was later burnt down by Russian Tsar Peter the Great during the Great Nordic War (1700 - 1721). In 1815 the city was acquired by Prussia and developed due to industrial location.
The arms are based on the print of a city seal from 1295. The griffins are representing the Pomeranian founders of the city. The tower is symbolising the fortified city. The colours of the dome are those of the Duchy of Pommern-Wolgast after 1532 (and of Sweden as well). The keys are an attribute of St. Peter, the local patron saint. According to Erwin Günther the keys are taken from the personal seal of Wartislaw I of Pommern. They are symbolising the right to have a mint. The keys appeared first on seals from the 14th century. Current arms basically display the same pattern but are different in minor details.

The flag was approved and the arms were confirmed on 18 June 1997 by Minister of Interior of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and published in the Municipal Roll of Arms Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as no.52.
