Coat of arms

Description of coat of arms:
The green field is divided by a silver(=white) wavy bend sinister. Within the bend are three red leaves of a water-lily.
Meaning:
According to source the coat of arms was that one of the former Amt Löhne, which was founded by merging of the Ämter of Mennighüffen and Gohfeld. The silver line is symbolizing the creek Werre, which had been the border between the two Ämter. The leaves ought to symbolize the fact, that the Amt was part of the territory of ancient Saxon tribe of Engern, the tribe of famous duke Widukind, who resisted Karl the Great for more than 30 years. The leaves were adopted by the dukes of Saxony-Lauenburg in 14th century, they were erroneously believed being the arms of ancient duchy of Engern. Having the title of a Duke of Westphalia also the Archbishops of Köln adopted those arms at the beginning of the 16th century.
