Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, issuant from an inescutcheon Argent, charged with two chevrons Gules, St. Ursula Argent with fair hair, dressed Gules, nimbed Or, holding a 6-spokes wheel Argent in her left hand and a triplet of arrows Argent in her right hand.
Meaning:
Oberursel had been a possession of the Lords of Eppstein, who granted city rights in 1444. In 1581 the city became part of the Archbishopric of Mainz. The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the city, which dates from the early 15th century. St. Ursula, familiar Ursel, is name giver and patron saint of the city. The inescutcheon displays a modification (Minderung) of the arms of the Lords of Eppstein. In 1646 the wheel of Mainz appears in the left hand of St. Ursula. In 1816 St. Ursula held in her right hand a palm frond, her usual attribute, as also displayed by Otto Hupp. The last changes were made in 1906, when the number of chevrons was reduced to two instead of three for Eppstein.
