Künzelsau City Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, the bearded head Or of St. John the Baptist on top of a plate Argent.
Meaning:
Künzelsau gained market privileges in 1413 and developed to a city in the 18th century. Künzelsau had been subject of joint heirship (German: Ganerbschaft). Before it was owned by the Von-Stein-family. At the end of the 11th century Mechthild von Stein, having no heirs of her own kin, bequeathed her properties mainly to Komburg Monastery but smaller parts to the Lords of Künzelsau and the Lords of Bartenau. Around 1500 the Lords of Stetten owned 25% of Künzelsau City, 20% belonged to the Counts of Hohenlohe and 15% to the Imperial City of Schwäbisch Hall. Another 10% was owned by the Archbishopric of Mainz, the Bishopric of Würzburg owned 10%, and 20% were divided amongst various individuals (Sulmeister von Hall, Knight of Bachenstein, Berlichingen, Crailsheim, Neuenstein etc.). Komburg Monastery had sold its shares to the Lords of Stetten before. The status of the joint heirship ended in 1802, when Hohenlohe gained complete control over the city. But in 1806 the city became a dominion of Württemberg. Seals of the market town are known since 1525. All seals and arms displayed the head of St. John the Baptist on a plate, patron saint of the local parish church. Being a condominium there never had been established arms with symbols of local rulers and a neutral symbol had been chosen instead.

Kocherstetten Borough Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, three axes Gules hilted Azure ordered 2:1.
Meaning:
Kocherstetten was owned by the Lords of Stetten as a fiefdom of the Counts of Hohenlohe. It became a borough of Künzelsau in 1972. The arms are derived from the family arms of the Lords of Stetten. The only difference is the colours of the hilts, which had been red in the Stetten family arms.
