Meaning:
The oldest seal of the city dates from the 14th century and displays the local patron saint St. Boniface, with an inescutcheon charged with the arms of Fulda (black cross), as the city was a dominion of the Abbey of Fulda. In the 19th century the local seals displayed a plough share and a staff of Mercury, symbolising agriculture and trade. In 1900 the above arms were designed, based on the oldest seal, in which the saint was replaced by a crozier and in the base a fountain as symbol for the spa and health resort was added.

Salmünster Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, a mitre Or, beneath an inescutcheon Argent charged with a throughout cross Sable.
Meaning:
Salmünster gained city rights in 1320 from King Ludwig the Bavarian. A seal was first mentioned in the 15th century, The oldest existing prints from the 17th century displayed the local patron saint, St. Boniface with crozier behind a shield with the arms of the Abbey of Fulda (black cross). The arms seemed to be very similar to those of Bad Soden (see above). In the early 20th century the above arms appear, in which the saint has been reduced to a mitre.
