Coat of Arms

Shield parted per bend, beneath right Argent a wolf trap Sable, above left Sable a wolf's head Argent tongued Gules.
Meaning:
The charges are the symbols of former Burgdorf County but with different colours. A antetype of the arms appears in "The Werewolf", a farmers' chronicle written by Hermann Löns. Its plot is performed in the region. The former municipalities of Engensen, Wettmar and Fuhrberg are frequently mentioned within the chronicle.

Engensen Coat of Arms

Shield parted by a barrulet Argent; above Vert a lion issuant Or tongued Gules; beneath Vert a postal horn Or roped Gules and Azure.
Meaning:
In Engensen there existed a Vehmic Court (German: Freigericht) until the 17th century. This is symbolised by the lion issuant, also in other municipalities of the region. The barrulet is referring to th postal stage coach line from Celle to Hannover. The postal horn is referring to the fact that the inhabitants were obliged to help the coaches.

Fuhrberg Coat of Arms

Shield Vert, an attire Argent with ten points, in chief an impending key Or in pale.
Meaning:
The key is taken from the arms of the Lords of Escherde. Their family arms displayed two keys in pale. The family was mentioned within the first charter from 1325, in which the village was mentioned. The attire is referring to the fact, that Fuhrberg had been seat of a forester's district of the Kings of Hannover in 1854. The arms were approved on 4 August 1966 by district governor (Regierungspräsident) of Lüneburg.

Großburgwedel Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess embattled; above Or a lion passant Azure, armed and tongued Gules, surrounded by three heartlets Gules; beneath Gules five windmills Argent ordered 3:2.
Meaning:
The lion is that one of the Duchy of Lüneburg. This version with just three heartlets is taken from the
Danish royal arms, they became part of the Lüneburg ducal arms in the 13th century by marriage. The municipality was centre of the historical County of Burgwedel and seat of a reeve since the 16th century. The embattled line of partition is alluding to a castle, first mentioned in 1371, and afterwards demolished by the citizens of Braunschweig, Lüneburg and Hannover in 1426. The mills are alluding to the many millers in the past. The flag colours are those of the Kingdom of Hannover and the Prussian Hannover Province.

Kleinburgwedel Coat of Arms

Shield Argent with base Vert, charged with a wolf trap Argent in fess and topped by five stones Argent in fess, issuant from the central stone an oak Argent in front of a wall Gules, crowned by five embattlements.
Meaning:
The embattled wall refers to a local castle, which was destroyed in 1521. The ruins of the wall with strong oak trees remained there until 1870. The wolf trap is symbolising that the municipality belonged to former Burgdorf County and is taken from its arms.

Shield parted per fess; above Vert a lion issuant Or tongued Gules; beneath Argent two pairs of bull's horns Or in pale, each pair connected by a black haired part of the scull.
Meaning:
In Thönse there existed a Vehmic Court (German: Freigericht) until the 17th century. This is symbolised by the lion issuant, also in other municipalities of the region. The horns are alluding to a special examination for breed certification, called "bull pushing".

Meaning:
In Wettmar there existed a Vehmic Court (German: Freigericht) until the 17th century. This is symbolised by the lion issuant, also in other municipalities of the region. The wheel is referring to Wellmühle, a local watermill.
