It is a white flag. The municipal coat of arms is in the centre of the flag.

Wilster City Coat of Arms

The shield is divided per fess. Above in a red field is a silver (= white) nettle leaf superimposed by an inescutcheon divided per fess into silver (= white) over red. Below in a blue field over blue and silver (= white) waves is a silver (=white) carp armed golden (= yellow).
Meaning:
Wilster gained city rights in 1282 by Count Gerhard II of Holstein. One year later the city gained city rights based on the Lübeck type. This is symbolised by the nettle leaf with inescutcheon. The carp and the waves are symbolising the little river Wilsterau, rich in fish. The complete ensemble can be found on seals from 1300, 1711 and 1719.

The flag was adopted on 17 May 2005. The coat of arms was approved on 13 June 1902 by Prussian King Wilhelm II. The artist is Adolf Matthias Hildebrandt from Berlin.
