Thüngen Coat of Arms

Shield enhanced parted per fess embattled, above Argent parted by a fess Or charged with three pallets wavy Gules, beneath Gules a cogwheel Argent between two grain ears Or in pale with stalks in orle.
Meaning:
Thüngen was first mentioned in 788 on occasion of a donation to the Fulda Imperial Abbey. The rulers changed several times, among those had been the Counts of Henneberg, who ruled the village until 1200. The village was acquired by commissionaires of the Bishopric of Würzburg in 1333. They called themselves Lords of Thüngen since then. In 1465 Thüngen gained the rights of a city. In 1677 the lords enfeoffed the bishopric with 25% of castle and market and the city became a condominion of the lords and the St. Julius Hospital in Würzburg. The tinctures red and white are those of the bishopric, the golden fess with red pallets displays the arms of the lords. The cogwheel is symbolising industries and the ears agriculture.
