Himmelkron Coat of Arms

Shield quartered; 1st quarter Or a lion rampant Sable crowned, armed and tongued Gules; 2nd quarter Azure an eagle Argent, crowned and armed Gules; 3rd quarter Gules an embattled wall issuant; 4th quarter quartered of Argent and Sable.
Meaning:
The eagle is taken from the family arms of the Counts of Andechs-Meranien. They founded Himmelkron as Pretzendorf. The current name appeared first in 1279, as the namesake Cistercian nunnery was established. It is a mystical name referring to the connection between heaven and earth. The nunnery was established by the Counts of Orlamünde, represented by the lion in the 1st quarter. The quartered shield displays the family arms of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, who acquired the nunnery after the Protestant Reformation and transformed it to a summer resort. The embattled wall is reminding on the Knights of Wirsberg, whose ancestral seat had been Lanzendorf, which became a part of Himmelkron in 1976.
