Bönnigheim Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In the red shield is a silver (= white) wheel with six spokes. Beneath the wheel is a lying moon crescent of the same colour having a face.
Meaning:
Bönnigheim was founded around 1280. The oldest seal of the city is known from 1285. The early seals displayed the imperial eagle, which was replaced in the 14th century two buffalo horns, the arms of the Lords of Sachsenheim. They ruled the city as vassals of the Bishops of Mainz. In the 15th century the horns were replaced by the wheel of Mainz. The crescent was added in the 17th century. The crescent is taken from the arms of the Lords of Wöllwarth, administrators of Bönnigheim.
The arms were again changed in 1785, when the city became a possession of Württemberg. The wheel was replaced by two deer antlers of Württemberg. In 1921 the council added the wheel. The shield was divided per fess, the upper half was divided per pale. The 17th century arms were restored in 1936

Banner and coat of arms were approved in 1936. In 1921 a probably plain banner was approved.
