Dannenberg upon Elbe City Coat of Arms

Shield Or, issuant from base a triplemount Vert, crowned by a fir tree of the same, supported by two lions rampant Azure, armed and tongued Gules.
Meaning:
Mount and fir tree are canting, as the meaning of Dannenberg is "mountain with fir". Dannenberg was already a city in the 13th century and seat of the Counts of Dannenberg , who already used similar arms having only one supporting lion and without mountain. City and county were sold by Count Nikolaus of Dannenberg to to Duke Otto the Severe of Lüneburg in 1303. The second lion might thus be the lion of the Welfen kin, from which the Dukes of Lüneburg descended. These arms first appeared on a seal from 1357. A secret seal with prints since 1438 displayed the same pattern, but the mountain acc. to Ralf Hartemink was added later in the 16th or 17th century.

Shield Vert with base Gules, crowned by an embattled wall Argent with port Azure and three towers Argent, having red balloon roofs topped by golden balls.
Meaning:
Hitzacker was founded as a city around 1260 and the oldest seal is known since 1289. The seal displayed, as did nearly all later seals, already a city wall with three towers. The current arms, which were adopted in 1951 by the local council, are based on the old seals. Through the centuries only the kind of roofs of the towers has changed and in the 20th century the red mount in base was reduced to a plain red base.
