Scheidegg Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale; at dexter Or a bear rampant Sable, armed and tongued Gules; at sinister Azure, in cief a steeple Argent, in base a bull's head caboshed Argent tongued Gules.
Meaning:
The dexter half is a differentiation of the arms of the city arms of St. Gallen. In the municipal arms the background is golden and the bear wears no collar. The municipality belonged to the Benedictine St. Gallen Monastery until 1266 and again between 1532 and 1571. Scheidegg had been an administrative seat of the monastery in the western Allgäu. The sinister half is based on the court seal of Altenburg, seat of commissionaires of the monastery. The steeple, a tower, is representing a castle (German: Burg) and thus canting. The bull probably is stressing the rural character. As the tinctures were not known, blue and white as Bavarian tinctures were chosen arbitrarily. Scheidegg belonged to Bayern since 1806.
