Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, divided by a Latin throughout cross Gules, the common point of both bars charged with an inescutcheon Sable, charged with a halbard Or in bend and a key Argent in bend sinister, both crossed per saltire.
Meaning:
Villmar gained city rights in 1316 from the Archbishops of Trier, which remained however defunct. The arms dispaly the cross of the Archbishopric of Trier and an escutcheon with the symbols of St. Peter (key) and St. Matthew (halbard). St. Peter is the patron saint of Trier, St. Matthew of the St. Matthew Abbey in Trier, whose reeves ruled the city on behalf of the archbishops. The arms are derived from the 16th century seal, which displayed the same arms. From 1641 onwards, the cross of Trier was removed from the local seals. The present arms are in use since the end of the 19th century.
The arms were officially approved on 12 June 1970.
