Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a red field is a silver(=white) castle. The castle has above an embattled wall a bigger central tower with triangular roof, which is flanked by two embattled towers. In the gate is a red heraldic rose seeded golden(=yellow). Two silver(=white) shields showing red heraldic roses are stuck upon the pinnacles.
Meaning:
According to source the arms are taken from the city seal version 1305, the rose is symbolizing the former rulers, the barons of Lippe. The arms had been approved by minister of interior of Northrhine-Westphalia on 24 November 1955 and they were confirmed on 23 February 1972

Heiligenkirchen Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. The 1st field shows in red a small church in natural colour above a horizontal sword with silver(=white) blade and golden(=yellow) holder. The 2nd field in silver(=white) a red heraldic rose seeded and barbed golden(=yellow).
Meaning:
The church probably is an image of the local church building. The whole composition might symbolize the final victory of Christianity over the pagans, but I am not sure. The rose is symbolizing the former rulers, the barons of Lippe.

Hiddesen Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess, above a golden(=yellow) warrior head in a blue field, below a red heraldic rose seeded and barbed golden(=yellow) in a silver(=white) field.
Meaning:
The rose is symbolizing the former rulers, the barons of Lippe. The warriors head is that one of the monument of Hermann, which is located in the area of the former municipality. Hermann is the German name of Arminius, a prince living in Rome as a hostage, which was really comfortable then. Arminius was in Roman services. He managed however to unite some German tribes for a short time and organized an insurrection. He defeated the Romans in the battle of Teutoburg forest in 9 AD and extincted three Roman legions. As a final result he stopped the Roman conquest of Germania mayor (Greater Germany) and Romans withdraw more or less to the banks of river Rhine.
In fact there is very little information, but in 19th century Germans believed that the battle took place near Detmold. Therefore a monument was erected, showing Arminius wearing a winged helmet with an upright sword (length: 7 metres) having the eagle of a Roman legion beneath his feet.
