Wurzbach Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, on mount Vert a crane passant Or.
Meaning:
In 1250 the village was owned by the Lords of Lobdeburg. It was later acquired by the Reeves of Gera, who owned it between 1504 and 1530 as a fiefdom of the Benedictine Saalfeld Abbey. Since the 16th century the Knights of Oßla had been local manorial lords. In 1757 it was completely acquired by the Counts of Reuß. Between 1848 and 1918 it belonged to the Principality of Reuß-Gera. Main business lines had been processing of metal, among others there had been a smelter, and processing of slate and paper. Wurzbach gained the rights of a market town in 1757, together with the right to use proper seals and arms. The crane is taken from the arms of the Princes of Reuß-Gera (younger branch), who acquired the Lordship of Oberkranichfeld in 1451 and used the crane (German: Kranich) since then as heraldic animal.

The banner displays the Thuringian colours and is probably used without approval. The arms were granted in 1757 by the Princes of Reuß-Gera.
