It is a blue-white-black vertical tricolour. The ratio of stripes is approx. 1:4:1. The coat of arms is shifted to the top within the white stripe. The shield is topped by a red mural crown.

Coat of Arms

The shield is parted per fess; above in a field Sable St.Peter issuant Argent, dressed Azure, coated Argent, nimbed Or holding a book Or and a key Or in his hands; beneath parted per pale; at dexter in a field Azure a lion rampant Or, armed and tongued Gules, surrounded by seven billets Or; at sinister in a field Gules a six-spokes wheel Argent.
Meaning:
The arms are based on the four oldest seals of the city, known between 1352, when city rights had been granted, and around 1700. St. Peter is the patron saint of the city. At the time the city was ruled by the Archbishops of Mainz (represented by the wheel) and the Counts of Nassau (represented by the lion). 1816-1907 the city used as proper arms a shield Argent charged with a rooster Gules.
In 1909 the city adopted and used the arms based on the oldest seal, which were approved on 11 March 1920.
