Kirchheim Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is quartered. Above right in a blue field is a silver (= white) vane. Above left in golden (= yellow) field are red charges, a sword and a branch of palm tree crossed per saltire. Below right the golden (= yellow) field is divided by a red saltire consisting of two crossed beams. Below left are three silver barrulets in a black field.
Meaning:
The 1st and 3rd quarter are representing the former municipality of Kirchheim. A - however golden - vane had been endowed by four farmers, who had public duties in the early 19th century. The saltire is alluding to St. Andrew, the patron saint of the local parish church. The colours blue and silver are reminding on the fact that Kirchheim had been a possession of the Bavarian dukes in the early Middle Ages. It had also been seat of a sheriff (Scherge) until the 13th century. The other quarters are representing the former municipality of Heimstetten, which had been incorporated in 1978. Sword and palm are attributes of St. Emmeram, who was adored around Kleinhelfendorf, where many inhabitants of Heimstetten went to school in the past. The colours black and gold are alluding to the nearby city of München. Many of its citizens and two clerical institutions had estates in Kirchheim in the past. The barrulets are taken from the arms of the Lords of Baierbrunn.

The coat of arms was approved on 11 April 1967 by Bavarian ministry of interior for Heimstetten and a modified version was approved on 31 July 1989 for Kirchheim. The flag also was approved on 31 July 1989 by district government of Oberbayern, according to approval it should be however blue - white -blue (and due to Bavarian legislation).

This is actually the old flag used until 2007. Due to an intervention by yours truly the took the unofficial/illegal white-blue flags out of use (and into the archives) and bought new flags in the correct colours blue-white-blue.
The current municipalitiy was formed by a merger of the former municipalities Kirchheim and Heimstetten in 1978. Both had their own arms, that were combined into a new arms only 11 years later. The old municipality Kirchheim used a white-blue unofficial flag with the arms (in vertical and horizontal form). It is quite probable that this is the origin for the later white-blue flag with the new (combined) Kirchheim arms.
