Oberschleißheim Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. Above in a red field is a golden monogram in a red field. Below is a field lozengy of silver (= white) and celestial blue.
Meaning:
The doubled monogram of Elector Max Emanuel (1679-1726) (=ME) is adoring the elector, who built Lustheim Castle in between 1684 and 1689 and Schleißheim Castle, a very famous building, in 1701. The Bavarian lozenges are emphazising the close connections to the Wittelsbach kin. Duke Wilhelm V built Schwaige and Kleinschleißheim Hermitage in 1597 and Elector Maximilain I erected the Old Castle in 1626. Since the 16th century Schleißheim was one of the favourite residences of the Wittelsbach kin. The arms were designed by Otto Hupp, one of the most important Geramn heraldrists in the 20th century, who was an inhabitant of Oberschleißheim.

The coat of arms was approved on 25 June 1926 by Bavarian ministry of interior. The banner has never been approved officially.
