Minden-Lübbecke County Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Gules two keys Argent in saltire, at sinister Argent three chevrons Gules.
Meaning:
The keys are taken from the coat of arms of the Bishopric of Minden. The chevrons are the ensign of the Counts of Ravensberg. Minden and Ravensberg became parts of the Electorate of Brandenburg in 1614, finally in 1648 after the end of 30-Years-War.

Lübbecke County Coat of Arms (1935 - 1968)

Shield Argent, issuant from base an enhanced triplemount Gules charged with a bar wavy Argent.
Meaning:
The arms are canting, mount and creek, represented by the bar wavy are alluding to the old Saxon settlement Hlid beki, the origin of Lübbecke city. The name means "location near a creek beneath a hillslope". The existence of the current name is proven since the 15th century. The colours red and white are those of the Counts of Ravensberg and of the Bishops of Minden as well. Both ruled parts of the current county in the early Middle Ages. The meaning of the arms was considered to be inapprehensible by the local authorities and furthermore the pattern was considered as "not suitable for seals" and was abolished.

Lübbecke County Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, issuant from base a triplemount Gules, charged with two keys Argent in saltire, on central peak an embattled tower Azure masoned Argent.
Meaning:
The colours red and white are those of the Counts of Ravensberg and of the Bishops of Minden as well. Both ruled parts of the current county in the early Middle Ages. The triplemount is representing Wiehengebirge, a local mountain ridge. The keys are taken from the arms of the Bishopric of Minden. The tower is representing the ruin of Limberg Castle, a fortress of the Counts of Ravensberg, located above Holzhausen.

The old arms were approved on 9 March 1935 by Prussian Minister of State. The new arms were approved in 1968 Minister of Interior of Nordrhein-Westfalen. Falko Schmidt reported that Clemens Stadler claimed that the old arms were not used since 1958 and thus no flag. This was however not mentioned by the county administration.

Minden County Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Gules a key in pale Argent, at sinister Argent two chevrons Gules.
Meaning:
The dexter half is a differentiation of the arms of the Bishopric of Minden, the sinister half a differentiation of the family arms of the Counts of Ravensburg. Bishops and counts ruled parts of the county in the Medieval.

The arms were approved on 6 August 1935 by Prussian Minister of State. Flag and arms were abolished on 31 December 1972.
