Rüdenau Coat of Arms

Shield Gules parted by three barrulets wavy Argent, in chief a dog's head Argent wearing a collar Sable with spikes Argent, in base a sword Argent hilted Or in bend sinister.
Meaning:
Rüdenau was established by forest clearance and first mentioned in 1285, when the Knight Wipert Rüdt of Rüdenau made a donation to the Benedictine Amorbach Monastery. In 1310 the kin was split into the Rüd of Bödigheim branch and the Rüd of Collenberg branch. The latter had been local rulers including the local cognisance until they died out in 1635. The canting head of a male dog (German: Rüde) is taken from their family arms. The sword is alluding to the local cognisance. The barrulets are symbolising riches of water and the many wells in the valley, e.g. the Ottilienbrunnen in the centre and the Matzebrünnle in the Jewish lower village (German: Unterdorf), The tinctures are those of the Archbishopric of Mainz, which ruled the village until 1803.
