Frankenberg Coat of Arms

Shield Gules a castle Or with masoned wall and open port with portcullis Argent, the wall topped by two quadrangular towers of the same with pitched roofs Azure, between the towers a female saint, crowned Or, coated Or with lining Azure and dressed Gules, superimposing a bladed wheel Or, holding a palm frond Or by her sinister hand and a sword Argent by her dexter hand.
Meaning:
The village developed to a city around 1200. The local castle was possessed by the Margraves of Meißen since 1292. The city gained mayor, council and low level cognisance in 1457. After 1560 copper mining was started and Frankenberg became a mining city in 1683. In the 18th century textiles industries were established and since 1842 cigars were produced. The arms are based on a city seal from the 1st half of the 16th century. Wall and towers are stressing the status of a city. The saint is St. Catherine, probably patron of a former local parish church. She is recognisable by her attributes bladed wheel and sword.
