Lunzenau Coat of Arms

Renaissance shield parted abased per fess wavy, above Azure with damascene ornamentation a tower Or with pitched roof Gules and port and windows Azure, beneath Argent with damascene ornamentation a fish Sable.
Meaning:
The area belonged to the Lordship of Rochsburg. Around 1200 a Sorbian settlement developed around a local mill. The Sorbian name Mlyncyna changed to the current German name. In 1327 a bridge existed, crossing the Mulde River. In 1333 Lunzenau was mentioned as a city. The city was ruled by a judge of the Dukes of Sachsen. The local church belonged to the parish of Rochsburg until 1854. Main business lines had been agriculture, brewery and fishing. The arms are based on a city seal, made around 1500. It displayed a fish and a fish trap in fess. The latter erroneously mutated into a tower since the end of the 18th century. The fish was placed onto the base at the end of the 19th century. At least until 1989 the shield had been completely blue with tower and a white fish. Fish and trap were referring to the river and fishing as important business line.
