Uchte Coat of Arms

Shield Or, two bear paws Sable armed Gules in pale, in central chief an inescutcheon Gules, charged with an initial Argent ("U").
Meaning:
Uchte developed near a castle, erected by the Counts of Hoya, around 1295 and had been seat of a reeve and a court. It gained the rank of a market town in the late 15th century. The oldest seal from around 1630 had a circumscription, where Uchte was described as a "free market town". Current seals display the greater arms, where the shield is topped by a helmet, crested with three peacock feathers and flanked by black and yellow scarves. The bear paws are taken from the family arms of the Counts of Hoya. The inescutcheon is just a distinguishing mark, charged with the initial. In the older version the initial had been a "V" due to old spelling.
