Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided by a wavy, blue fess, above in a golden (=yellow) field is a black, statant lion, armed and tongued red. Below the silver (=white) field is divided by a black centred cross.
Meaning:
According to source the wavy fess is symbolizing river Rhine, the cross the archbishopric and electorate of Köln, the lion the duchy of Jülich.

Description of current flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is white flag with red horizontal stripes at the top- and bottom edge. In the centre of the white stripe is the coat of arms.

Zons Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a red French shield is St. Martin on a horse sharing his coat with a beggar (all in silver (= white)). In the canton of the shield is a silver (=white) square divided by a black centred cross. The shield is topped by a golden (= yellow) mural crown.
Meaning:
According to source the image is known from seals of the village since 1373, sealed papers existed already from 1347, both long before Zons gained city rights. The cross was above the image of St.Martin, who is the local patron saint. The cross is symbolizing the archbishopric and electorate of Köln.
