Asbach Associated Municipality Coat of Arms

Shield quartered, 1st quarter Argent parted by a centred cross Sable, 2nd quarter Argent a fess Gules with orle Azure, 3rd quarter Gules three eagle heads Argent crowned Or, 4th quarter Argent parted by a centred cross Gules.
Meaning:
In 1250 Konrad of Hochstaden as Archbishop of Köln inherited the Altenwied district from Countess Mechthildis of Sayn. The village remained a possession of the archbishopric until 1803. The 1st quarter displays the arms of the archbishopric. The 2nd quarter displays the family arms of the Barons of Ütgenbach, important manorial lords between 1116 and 1428. The barons were succeded by the Counts of Nesselrode. The arms of the barons had been also those of the former Asbach Subcounty (German: Amt). The 3rd quarter displays the arms of the Reeves of Panau, who ruled the area around Neustadt upon Wied between 1378 and 1403. The 4th quarter displays the arms of the Archbishopric of Trier, which held the local cognisance over the parish in nearby Neustadt upon Wied. The border between both archbishoprics crossed the current associated municipality.

Asbach Coat of Arms

Shield Azure a belfry issuant Argent; mantled Argent, at dexter parted by a cross Sable, at sinister parted by a fess Gules.
Meaning:
The black cross displays the arms of the Archbishopric of Köln, to which the area belonged from 1250 until 1803. The fess is taken from the arms of the Barons of Ütgenbach, important manorial lords between 1116 and 1499, when the family got extinct. The kin founded the Ütgenbach Chapel and the Ehrenstein Castle. The base shows the belfry of the local church. A tower has been mentioned on the same place as early as 1180.

Buchholz Coat of Arms

Shield Azure a chapel Argent; mantled, at dexter Argent parted by a cross Sable, at sinister Or an eagle´s wing Gules.
Meaning:
The chapel is a representation of the local Chapel of the Holy Cross. The black cross displays the arms of the Archbishopric of Köln, to which the area belonged from 1250 until 1803. The wing is taken from the arms of the Ungenad kin from Elsaff, former local rulers.

Neustadt Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess, above Argent two staffs Gules topped by fleur-d-lis of the same in saltire, beneath Gules three eagle heads Argent crowned Or.
Meaning:
The arms combine elements from the arms of two families of former local rulers. The lower half shows the three eagle heads of the Reeves of Panau, who ruled the village from 1378 until 1403. The upper half displays the arms of their successors, the Munt family, who ruled until 1555. Both arms can also be seen on local tombstones.

Windhagen Coat of Arms

Shield Gules a well Or pouring water of the same; mantled Argent, at dexter parted by a cross Sable, at sinister parted a fess wavy Azure, flanked by three roses Argent seeded Gules and barbed Vert ordered 2:1.
Meaning:
The black cross displays the arms of the Archbishopric of Köln, to which the area belonged from 1250 until 1803. Fess wavy and roses are taken from the arms of the Schönebeck family, who owned an estate in the settlement core of Johannisberg. The base shows the local village well, which according to a legend had healing waters.
