Rettenberg Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess embattled, above Argent a 5-fold mountain Gules, beneath Gules two morions Argent in pale.
Meaning:
The 5-fold mountain or, if you prefer quintuplemount, (German: Fünfberg), is taken from the arms of the Lords of Rettenberg, first mentioned in 1130 and died out in 1350. The mount had already been in the former municipal arms of Vorderburg, since 1978 part of Rettenberg. The embattled line of partition is representing the former municipalities of Vorderburg and Untermaiselstein and is alluding to the remains of the ancestral seat of the Lords of Rettenberg. The Lords of Maiselstein had similar arms, displaying a triplemount. The castle became a possession of the Bishopric of Augsburg in 1351 and seat of a reeve. The tinctures are referring to the bishopric. The castle was destroyed by a fire in 1562 and the seat of a reeve was transferred to Burgberg in 1566.
