[Ostholstein CoA] image by Jörg Majewski, 9 Dec 2007

Description of coat of arms:
At the bottom of a blue shield is a silver (= white), embattled tower issuant having two levels. The lower part is masoned black. The upper part has three blue windows. Above the tower is an impending golden (= yellow) cross potent flanked by two flying scarves of the same colour. The upper arm of the cross is crowned by a silver (= white) mitre.
Meaning:
In 1970 the former counties of Oldenburg (Holstein) and Eutin merged. The county of Oldenburg had been part of the Duchy of Holstein and was established in 1867 by the Prussian government. The tower is taken from the arms of the city of Oldenburg (Holstein). On the other hand Eutin had been part of the Oldenburgian Bishopric of Lübeck and became a part of the Duchy of Oldenburg in 1803. In 1937 Eutin became a part of the Prussian district of Schleswig. Cross and mitre are taken from the arms of the former county of Eutin and before they had been parts of the arms of the Bishopric of Lübeck.
