Biessenhofen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale; at dexter Argent an eradicated linden Vert; at sinister Azure a lion rampant Argent, crowned, armed and tongued Or.
Meaning:
In 1151 Simprecht of Benzenau established the little Lordship of Ottilienberg with Dorf as its capital and Altdorf as its court, being remains of the extincted Lordship of Kemnat. The linden is representing the court in Altdorf. Since 1484 the Lords of Benzenau had the high lewel cognisance in Altdorf. They mounted gallows in 1561 beneath the linden at the crossing of Bernbacher Straße. The sinister half displays the arms of the Margraves of Ronsberg. The ruled the Augstgau, a shire, from 1147 until the 13th century and built Kemnat Castle.
