Füssen Flag

Füssen is a city in Bavaria, Germany, known for the Hohes Schloss and its Basilica and the former Benedictine monastery of Saint Mang. The famous Neuschwanstein Castle is located a few miles to the east of the city. Last week I visited Munich (Bavaria, Germany) and made an excursion to Füssen which is Italian German town. They say, Italian people started living there since time of ancient Roman Empire. The Füssen municipal flag is black over yellow, charged with black trinacria emblem in yellow shield in the center.

Coat of Arms

Shield Or a triskelion Sable with an equilateral triangle Or in centre.
Meaning:
Füssen was first mentioned as a city in around 1295, when probably also the first city seal was made. A print from 1317 already displayed the current punning pattern, three feet (German: Füße) in a shield. In 1818 the pattern was abolished by the Bavarian government and replaced by arms as follows: shield parted per fess, above lozengy of white and blue, representing Bayern and beneath three black feet in fess in a golden field, on top of the shield a lion couchant guardant with scarves at both flanches. The current pattern was restored in 1842.

The arms were confirmed in 1842 by King Ludwig I of Bayern.
