Roßhaupten Coat of Arms

Renaissance shield Gules, above a horsehead Argent, beneath two bars wavy Argent.
Meaning:
The horsehead (German: Roßhaupt, Latin: Caput Equi) is canting. Due to a legend St. Marc, the founder of the namesake monastery in Füssen killed a huge dragon in a local canyon, which was blocked by his dead body and then was so narrow, that not even a horse could pass it. Since then the location was called "the end of the line for horses". The bars were added as a distinguishing mark. They are also referring to the Lech River and to the Forggensee, a nearby lake. The tinctures ar those of the Bishopric of Augsburg, which became the most important local ruler since the 13th century. The "fish house", a manor, is located alongside the road to Kaufbeuren. It had been the seat of the Master of Fishery of the bishopric.
