It is a red - white - red vertical triband with ratio 1:3:1. The coat of arms is in the white stripe shifted to the top.

Coat of arms

Description of coat of arms:
The red field is divided by a golden(=yellow) centred cross. In the 1st and 2nd quarter is a pair of silver(=white) oak leaves ordered horizontally, in the other quarters a pair of ears of grain, also ordered horizontally, of the same colour. The shield has a silver(=white) base containing a red indented chevron (German: Rautensparren).
Meaning:
According to source the cross is taken from the arms of the archbishopric of Paderborn while the chevron is taken from the arms of the lords of Büren. The leaves are symbolizing the existence of wide forests in the area and the ears of grain agriculture and the fertility of the soil an. There existed different versions before since the early middle ages. These arms were approved by Regierungspräsident Detmold on 16 January 1976.
