In a silver (= white) shield is a red castle, masoned black. The castle has an embattled main tower, flanked by two smaller towers. All towers are topped by golden (= yellow) balls. The closed gate is light brown and the windows are black. The gate is superimposed by a red inescutcheon displaying a silver (= white) nettle leaf.
Meaning:
Stadthagen was founded by Count Adolf III of Schaumburg in the 13th century. The oldest known seal from the late 13th century - prints exist from 1307 - already shows the same pattern as the above arms, a city view and in the gate an inescutcheon with the arms of the Counts of Schaumburg. All later seals and images show basically the same pattern, but the size and shape of the buildings has changed considerably during the centuries. The tinctures were fixed by the local government in 1907.
