Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Gules two 6-spokes wheels Argent in pale connected by a crosslet of the same, at sinister Argent a key Gules in pale.
Meaning:
The arms are known since the 14th century, as they appeared on a fortification tower and in a church in the town dating from the 14th century. The arms also appeared on 16th century boundary stones, and in 1600 also on the local seal. The oldest seal displays the wheel of the Archbishopric of Mainz and the personal arms of Archbishop Heinrich of Virneburg of Mainz, who granted the city rights in 1332. Later seals display the wheel of Mainz and the key, but the key placed below the wheel. The double wheel is representing the Archbishopric of Mainz and the key is an attribute of St. Peter. Position and tinctures changed various times throughout the centuries. The version of Otto Hupp displays a blue key in a silver field at dexter and was based upon the official definition given in 1908.
