Willmandingen Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale into silver (= white) and black. The dexter side displays a black, sinister facing bear, armed and tongued red. The sinister side displays an upright silver (= white) mace.
Meaning:
Willmandingen was first mentioned in 772, among others within a charter of the abbey of Sankt Gallen. It was a dominion of the Counts of Achalm in 1100, of the Counts of Zollern from 1296 to 1384, and again since 1474. In the 30-Years-War it was pawned to the Archduchess Claudia of Tirol, who administrated the area from 1634 to 1648. In 1975 Willmandingen joined the municipality of Sonnenbühl. The mace is an attribute of St. Nazarius, the local patron saint, while the bear is alluding to Sankt Gallen.
