Isny City Coat of Arms

Shield Sable, a crowned eagle Or, on his breast an inescutcheon Argent, charged with a horseshoe Sable.
Meaning:
Since the 13th century, with existing prints from 1288, the city used seals, only displaying the canting horsehoe (German: Hufeisen, shortly just Eisen or Isen in local language). It was also used on borderstones and the inescutcheon had been the coat of arms until 1488. Since 1292 the local patron saint St. George appeared on local seals together with his attributes wheel, dragon and horse and the horseshoe. Isny gained the status of a Free Imperial City (Freie Reichsstadt) in 1365. The current arms display the Imperial Eagle in counterchanged tinctures with an additional crown and the inescutcheon with the original arms.

The arms were granted by Emperor Friedrich III in 1488 due to the merits of the city during a campaign in Flanders. The flag colours are traditional. Their origin is unknown.
