Kaltennordheim Coat of Arms

Shield Azure an embattled tower Argent, in open port Or a hen statant Sable armed Gules on top of a triplemount issuant Vert.
Meaning:
The region was donated to the Fulda Abbey in 795. The village was finally acquired by the Counts of Henneberg in 1315. They also finished the construction of a local castle in 1335. In 1583 the village became a possession of the Wettin kin, in 1660 of Sachsen-Weimar, in 1671 of Sachsen-Eisenach and finally in 1741 again of the Duchy of Sachsen-Weimar, where it remained until918. The village gained city rights in 1562, was however considered to be a mere market town until the 18th century. The city rights were confirmed in 1927.
The pattern of the arms is based on a city seal from the 16th century. The tower is symbolising the status of the city while hen and mount are representing the Counts of Henneberg as local rulers. The pattern remained basically the same but changed in details. The tower had been red between 1925 (Otto Hupp) probably until 1989, when the GDR was dissolved. Afterwards for a short range the tower had been red on a blue background.
