Brotterode Coat of Arms

Shield Vert, hammer and mallet Or superimposed by a chisel Or in pale.
Meaning:
Brotterode was first mentioned in 1216 as seat of a reeve. As part of the Lordship of Schmalkalden it belonged to the Landgraviate of Thüringen and became a condominion of the Counts of Henneberg and the Landgraves of Hessen. The latter gained the only control in 1583. The main business lines had been the processing of tobacco, wood and metal, ore mining and wire drawing. In 1895 the biggest part of Brotterode was destroyed by fire. Since 1900 it became a summer health resort and a winter sports location. In 1936 Brotterode gained city rights. The arms are based on a local seal from 1726. The tools are referring to mining and mining rights for the inhabitants. Those privileges were granted in 1537 by Landgrave Philipp I of Hessen.

Trusetal Coat of Arms

Shield Vert parted by a tau cross Or, in chief parted by a fess wavy Argent, in dexter base hammer and mallet Argent in saltire, in sinister base four triangular blades Argent in cross.
Meaning:
The fess wavy is a representation of the name giving Truse, a creek. The number of waves is representing the settlement cores. The cross is an element of structure and stands also for the initial "T". Hammer and mallet are symbolising mining and the blades metal processing. The green colour is symbolising tradition and the status of a recreation place on the southwestern edge of the Thüringer Wald, a forest.
