Scheer Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, a pair of scissors Argent, open with its blades pointing upwards, in chief a fish Argent set in fess, in base a 6-point star Or.
Meaning:
Scheer was founded by the Counts of Montfort and German King Rudolf I confirmed its city rights in 1289. The oldest city seal from 1310 already displayed the scissors (German: Schere) as a canting element, the fish, symbolising the location on the banks of Donau River, and the star, which had been probably a Habsburgian mark of cadency, also to be seen in the arms of Sigmaringen. The position of the star had been different, above or beneath the scissors' blades. Seals from the 15th until the 19th century displayed roses instead of the stars. Since 1925 the fish was displayed in a blue chief. As this was transgressing heraldic rules the blue chief was abolished and the first pattern of the arms was restored. The colours of the banner still refer to the blue chief.
