Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is golden(=yellow). In its base is a pyramide of green and white squares (for cubes). Upon the upper square is a black eagle ready to fly.
Meaning:
According to source the pyramide is symbolizing the near by quarries of green dolomite. There had been three explanations for the existence of the eagle, but all turned out unsatisfactory in the end.
Expl.#1: The eagle is the eagle of Holy Roman Empire, because there existed a base of the Teutonic Order. The eagle however never had been symbol of the order.
Expl.#2: There should have been an mperial estate in Anröchte. Therefore there is no proof.
Expl.#3: The eagle is taken from the kin of Anröchte, a side branch of the counts of Arnsberg. But neither the use of that eagle is for sure nor the descent of the Anröchtes from the counts of Arnsberg.

The coat of arms was approved by Oberpräsident of Prussian province of Westphalia on 11 May 1939, the 1st banner by minister of interior of Northrhine-Westphalia on 21 February 1958, the 2nd banner by Regierungspräsident Arnsberg on 15 March 1976.
