Wadgassen Coat of Arms

Shield Azure a fleur-de-lis Or, mantled above right Or a demi-eagle Sable couped per pale armed and tongued Gules, and mantled above left Gules parted by a cross Or.
Meaning:
Wadgassen had been seat of a royal court since 902. It was the favourite place of German King Ludwig the Child (893 - 911). King Heinrich IV gave it as a donation to Count Sigbert I of Saarbrücken. His son transformed the court to a monastery and in 1135 Archbishop Albero of Trier transformed it to a Premonstratensian Abbey, which played an important role for centuries, until it was dissolved in 1792. In 1843 the famous Villeroy and Boch glassworks were established in Wadgassen. The demi-eagle is alluding to the king's court, the cross to the abbey, and the fleur-de-lis to the Bourbon kin, which ruled the area as Kings of France.
