Wiedergeltingen Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, a demi-griffin-lion Gules issuant from three billets of the same ordered 1:2.
Meaning:
The village was a possession of the Welfen kin in the 12th century. Remains of their castle are still in the municipality. Duke Welf VI lived here. Around 1147 the Premonstratensian Steingaden Monastery was founded by the kin. Some of the local possessions and estates belonged to the initial equipment of the monastery, which owned all ecclesiastical and juridical rights until 1803, when it was secularised. The griffin-lion is the heraldic animal of the Welfen kin. The tinctures red and white are also alluding to the kin. The billets are also part of the arms of the monastery and the municipality of Steingaden, which means "fortified tower house" or "tower on ashlars" (local German: Gaden aus Stein).
