Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided into red over blue by a silver (= white) bendlet. Above are two silver (= white) Turk's cap lilies (Latin: Lilium martagon). Below is a lion's head, striped silver (= white) and red and crowned golden (= yellow).
Meaning:
The lilies are taken from the arms of former Lauterbach County. They grow in nature sanctuary Hoher Vogelsberg. The lion's head is taken from the arms of Alsfeld city and is also representing the former Landgraviate of Hesse, to which the biggest part of the nowadays county belonged, and its successors. On 1 August 1972 the counties Alsfeld and Lauterbach and the city of Schotten merged and formed Vogelsberg County.
