Shield parted per fess, above Azure a demi-lion rampant issuant armed and tongued Gules, beneath Or an ammonite Azure.
Meaning:
The lion is taken from the arms of the former Braunschweig County, to which the municipality belonged. The ammonite is alluding to numerous petrifactions, found in the nearby Elm Mountains.

Schandelah Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale; at dexter Azure semy of heartlets Gules a sinister facing lion rampant Or, armed and tongued Gules; at sinister paly dancetty of seven of Azure and Or.
Meaning:
The lion is taken from the arms of the Dukes of Braunschweig-Lüneburg, differentiated in tinctures and heading of the lion. Schandelah belonged to the duchy until 1512 and became then a part of the Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel branch of the kin. The pattern of the sinister half displays the arms of the Lords of Scanlesche, their arms had been however white and red. The tinctures were adapted to the colours of Braunschweig.
