It was a red flag with a white castle shifted towards the hoist. It was rectangular and was probably fixed by a knot in the middle of the fly end.

Weißenburg Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, a castle Argent with two embattled towers, open port and portcullis, between the towers an impending inescutcheon Or, charged with a double-headed eagle Sable.
Meaning:
Since 1241 there existed two local seals. The 1st seal displayed in a shield parted per pale a demi imperial eagle, i.e. double-headed, and couped per pale at dexter and castle with a piece of wall at sinister. The 2nd seal (of the mayor) displayed a castle with impending double-headed eagle. The current pattern of the arms with inescutcheon appeared first in 1481. In 1808 the eagle was replaced by an intial "W". In 1835 the former pattern was restored. Local seals displayed an additional angel as supporter on top of the shield. The supporter was removed in 1967. All artwork and the depictions in armourials since 1470 displayed the canting white castle (German: Weiße Burg) alone.

The arms were granted by Emperor Friedrich III on 21 September 1481 and confirmed on 27 April 1835 by King Ludwig I of Bayern. The flag colours red ans white are known since 1545.
