Introduction of GVFN

The GVFN (Garten-Verein "Friedlicher Nachbar" - Garden Association "Peaceful Neighbour") was established in Dortmund on 19 September 1926 by 12 garden owners, as Kleingartenbau-Verein-Friedlicher-Nachbar-Dortmund (Small-sized Gardening Association "Peaceful Neighbour"' Dortmund). The association held its first General Assembly on 10 October 1926, offering to its members gardens of 2 Sechziger (~ 280 m2) in maximal area. Yearly registration to the association amounted to 3.50 Reichsmark. Yearly fee for the gardens depended on the soil quality (I. 6 Reichsmark / Sechziger; II. 5.20 Reichsmark / Sechziger; III. 4 Reichsmark / Sechziger).
Located in the Körne district adjacent to the Dortmund-Körne railway station ,the community garden managed by the GVFN is composed of nearly 200 contiguous plots.

Flag of GVFN

The flag of the GVFN is horizontally divided green-white-yellow. The order of the stripes has been a matter of vivid discussions for years, some claiming hat the flag should be yellow-white-green, representing the sun, the clouds and the Earth, respectively. The flag of the GVFN is indeed the flag of the Reichsverband der Kleingartenvereine Deutschlands / RGV - National Federation of the Allotment Garden Clubs of Germany). The RGV was established during the 2nd Days of the German Small Gardeners, organised in Bremen on 14 August 1921. Dr. Pauly, representing the Prussian Ministry of People's Welfare, welcomed the new union and proposed as flag colors, green as a symbol of hope, white as a symbol of neutrality, and yellow as a symbol of joy of life.
