Norasia Schiffahrt G.m.b.H., Kiel - blue flag, white diamond with concentric blue outline; black "N".

Norasia Lines Ltd. House Flag (Malta). As Jorge Candeiassuspected this "flag" would seem to be only as logo image with the white frame being additional to the actual flag which is shown on the Nüsse site [see below, first image]. The situation is more complicated in that the firm which started as Norasia Schiffahrts GmbH of Kiel, Germany, in 1984, initially operated their ships under one ship companies through German ship managers. One of these also operated a subsidiary out of Malta, Ganymed (Malta) Ltd. This may be the origin of the Maltese connection for Jorge Candeias' image.

The original flag would seem to be that of Brown 1995 which is blue having the white diamond but with a black internal frame which encloses a slanted "N" of black cotized of the same i.e. the black letter has a narrow black outline framing it separated white from the letter [see below, 3rd image). This would seem to be not quite right judging by a funnel photo I hold and the table flag shown by Josef Nüsse [see below, 2nd image, based on the latter] which show that the outline turns into shading on the appropriate sides. Josef Nüsseshows his flag as being for the Swiss company Norasia Shipping Services S.A. of Fribourg which I assume was a subsidiary. In 2000 the company was acquired by the Chilean company Compañia Sud-Americana de Vapores and subsequently formed part of CSAV Norasia which is still currently operating but seemingly not as a ship owner, instead being a charterer. At some stage the flag has been altered in line with Jorge Candeias' image with the frame within the diamond becoming blue, the "N" also changing colour and design. Hence the Nüsse image referred to at the start which he again ascribes to a Swiss company, in this case Norasia Services S.A. of Fribourg.

The livery does not appear to be used any more with owners funnels applying and so far no indication of any flag flying either including at the CSAV Norasia Head Office which is in Hong Kong although their site shows a photo of CSAV flags flying there. As to what country the Norasia should show under, I would suggest Germany which is where Lloyds domiciled them up until the takeover.

A dubious flag [i.e. might only be a logo]. Dark blue with a white inner border and a dark blue outer border and a white lozenge in the center, also with dark blue
and white borders, bearing a "cut" dark blue "N".

Now a Cypriot shipping company.
Jan Mertens, 28 Nov 2005

The firm was founded in 1964. Being fed up with the German cold weather and high taxes, Mr. und Mrs. Oldendorff emigrated southwards with the children and settled in Limassol, Cyprus in 1987. There was no change either in the name or the house flag of the company.

The company used a black and white flag divided by saltire, the white quarters cotized red. In the centre of the flag was a shield divided per fess. In the chief were black letters "S&O" in a yellow field. The base was divided per pale with inverted Hamburg colours in the right side rotated clockwise 350o and and the colours of Elbing in the left side rotated clockwise 50o.
