Introduction

In the province of Alicante, there are several municipalities that have the Aragonese colours (yellow flag with four red stripes) with the municipal CoA in the center. Vall de Gallinera (La Vall de Gallinera, 53,60 km² and 671 hab., 2008) is a municipality in the comarca of Marina Alta in the Valencian Community. It is formed by the towns of Benirrama, Benialí, Benissivá, Benitaia, Carroja, Alpatró, Llombai and Benissili. All these towns constitute a single municipality, named Vall de Gallinera, with the City Council in Benialí.

Josep Tormo and Adolfo Durán had reported in "Banderas 50" the existence of a previous flag, described thus:

"Since 1986 this municipality has been using a green flag with a central yellow oval charged, in turn, with an irregular [i.e. non-square] Aragonese lozenge and bordered with eight red roundels, in two groups of four, one above and one below. In fact, the design dates from 1978, but the process of formalization was slow, not receiving a favorable response from the Royal Academy of History until the session held on November 2, 1990."
